Things to do before getting help from a tutor
- Reread or reorganize your notes.
- Attempt problems from the assignment. Try to come up
with specific questions to ask the tutor.
- Make certain you understand what your professor expects
of you.
- Possibly see your professor during office hours.
How to use the Math Study Center
- If you are in Math 97 or below, you must sign up for IDS 198
- Math (a zero credit, zero cost course). You must do this
each semester. Our door-duty people and tutors will be glad
to help you sign up for this course. They will have access
to add codes if you don't have one.
- If you are in Math 103 or above, you do not need to sign
up for IDS 198. Enrolling in your course automatically puts
you into the MSC computer system.
- Log in when you enter by entering your College ID. We
can help you figure it out if you aren't sure. The log-in
computer is immediately on the right when you enter.
- Find a seat and start doing your assignment. We might
suggest you sit with others needing help with the same
course, but you certainly can sit where you like.
- Have a question? Raise your hand and a tutor will come
to help you as soon as they can. Our tutors do their best to
assist others up to a certain amount of time so that they
can get to everyone. Be patient. Someone will be there for
you.
- Have respect for others - turn your cell phone off. If you
need to be contacted - turn your phone on vibrate mode and
answer it outside the building.
- Do not install or download software of any kind on our
computers.
- NO FOOD OR DRINKS (please keep water
bottles in your back packs and away from the computers).
- Please don't forget to log out when you leave. (Logging
in and out and, for that matter helps us keep track of usage of the center
so that we can schedule tutors appropriately and continue to be funded.)
What to do after you've been tutored
- Evaluation forms are available next to the log-in
computer. Please fill out an evaluation form. Let us know if
you had a great experience or if there are any issues we
need to address.
- You might also want to let your instructor know if you
had a good experience or if there were any issues that arose
while at the center. They can then get in touch with us.
- Finish up assignments related to the topics you were
assisted with to reinforce what you've been shown.
