 Solid Thinking Student Design Competition

The solidThinking Design Competition will award the best design concepts developed using solidThinking 8.5 and/or solidThinking 8.5 Inspired. Creativity, originality, efficiency, feasibility and presentation effectiveness are some of the key design qualities - facilitated by solidThinking and solidThinking Inspired - that the competition intends to reward.

Applicant Eligibility:

Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States and may not be an associate (employee) of any division of DEALS.SERVICEBUNDLES.

Incoming freshman: Applicant must be a current student and have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale and must have taken either the ACT or SAT test.  Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship

Award: $5,000

Deadline: December 5, 2012

Applicant Requirements:

1. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States.

2. All applicants must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months.

3. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

4. Volunteer services performed by applicant must help non-family members.

5. If applicant is selected as a potential national Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship recipient or regional Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Honoree, in order to be confirmed as a winner, the student's parent or legal guardian must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Assignment of Rights.

6. Scholarship funds awarded to winners must be used for tuition and related fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at an accredited post-secondary education institution.

 Persian Scholarship Foundation

Award: $1,000

Deadline: December 15, 2012

Qualifications for Applying:

1) Currently enrolled student within a high school, college or university in the United States.

2) Publication of an essay / article within your school’s newspaper or a local / national newspaper in which you discuss themes relating to the history, culture, literature and or heritage of the Iranian people or the achievements of scholars, scientists and leaders of Iranian  descent. The essay should aim to emphasize the positive achievements of Iran and Iranians and their contributions to society or enlightening aspects of history related to the Iranian-American community.

Application Process:

Submit the following documents by December 15, 2012 for consideration: a cover letter telling us about yourself, your background and achievements, any leadership experiences you may have had and your reasons for applying to this program (no more than two pages), a data sheet with your full name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, current year in school and the name and location of your school, a digital copy of your valid student ID, a scanned digital copy of your published article, a Word Document copy of the article as a reference, and a digital scanned copy of your official transcript indicating your GPA.  Stay Fit Scholarship

There is no Formal Scholarship Application. To apply for the Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship, please write your scholarship essay in Microsoft Word or, if you do not have Microsoft Word, in Google office, the latter is free to use on the Internet. After you are finished the writing process, please attach it to an email and send it to: studentaward@fitnessexercises.tv. To Be Eligible for this scholarship you must:

A.         As of the Dec. 15, 2012, be under 25 years of age

B.         Be currently a senior in high school or in your first year of university or college

Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship

Deadline: December 31st

Award: $1,000

 The Association of American Geographers is pleased to announce a national scholarship program for community college students. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students from community colleges, junior colleges, city colleges, or similar two-year educational institutions who will be transferring as geography majors to four year colleges and universities.

The award consists of a scholarship to be used for any educational expenses in the amount of $1,000 and a formal certificate of merit. The formal announcement of the award will take place at the annual meeting of the AAG.

 Eligibility: You are eligible to apply if you are a student currently enrolled at a US community college, junior college, city college, or similar two-year educational institution at the time you submit your application. You must also have completed at least two transfer courses in geography and plan to transfer to a four-year institution as a geography major during the coming academic year.

Criteria: Selection will be based on the overall quality of the application, scholastic excellence and academic promise. Financial need will also be considered. The selection committee will observe the purposes and preferences noted above when evaluating proposals. Two to four awards of $1,000 each will be made annually. Awards may not be made in years when funds are insufficient or proposals are not suitable.

Gen Robert E. Hogaboom Leadership Writing Contest

Award: $3,000

Deadline: December 31, 2012

The contest is open to all Marines on active duty and to members of the Selected Marine Corps Reserve. The contest honors the essay that is the most original in its approach to the various aspects of leadership. Authors must be willing to take an honest, realistic look at what leadership, either positive or negative, means to them and then articulate ways and methods of being an effective leader of Marines.

Internet Safety Video Contest Scholarship

Award: up to $1,000

Deadline: December 31, 2012

Getting Started

1. Choose an Internet safety topic from the list on the website

2. In a paragraph, explain the creative approach that you will use so that your video is engaging, and actionable to teens. Explain what lessons viewers will learn. Email your (a) topic, (b) creative approach and (c) learning outcomes to danielkent@netliteracy.org. You will receive confirmation that the topic is open and that your creative approach has not been used by others. This will minimize videos that are duplicative. If you have a video posted on YouTube – please send the link.

3. Then begin conceptualizing, storyboarding, scripting, producing, and editing your video! Lights, camera, action!

4. Hint! Be creative, impactful, and actionable – please remember that engaging videos that are instructional, provide non-obvious information, and are persuasive will be judged the most favorably.

5. Winning videos will be posted on the Net Literacy website and on Net Literacy’s YouTube Channel.

Medical Professionals of Tomorrow Scholarship

Award: $5,000

Deadline: December 31, 2012

The Medical Professionals of Tomorrow Scholarship is available to full-time college students who are pursuing a course of study in a medical field, including those studying to become a doctor, nurse, physical therapist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, and all those who are pursuing other medical fields! One applicant will be selected, out of the many, to receive this $5,000 scholarship award. With this award, US Medical Supplies hopes to contribute to the future of the medical field by offering the winning student financial assistance to help cover the expenses of tuition and books.

 To receive this scholarship each applicant must answer the following question in 500 words or more:

What person and/or event inspired you to pursue a career in a medical field, and how do you plan on capitalizing upon this experience in your field?

Return 2 College Scholarship

Award: $1,500

Deadline: December 31, 2012

 

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents who are starting a program of higher education (college or graduate school) within the next 12 months or are currently full- or part-time students. Applicants must be age 17 years or older. There is no maximum age limit.

 

How Often You Can Enter: The essay requirement does not allow for many words. Focus on the most important reason for getting your degree. Nevertheless, we realize that some of you may want to say more. Therefore, you may submit more than one entry. All completed entries will be judged. Just use some common sense-under a dozen entries are fine. Any more and the judges may start to question your “focus” for going to school.

The Big Dig Scholarship

Deadline: June 1st, 2012

Award: $3,000

 In 200 years, one of your relatives is going to be digging in what is now your backyard. They are going to find something that you buried in 2012 and it is going to put any financial worries they have to rest.

Your job today is to decide what to bury. Your goal is to find something that will have immense value in the future. The item you choose today must:

1.)   Be currently sold in stores

2.)   Be under $500

 Write an essay that is between 500 and 1000 words. Be sure to answer all of the following questions in your essay:

1.)   What is the item you are going to bury?

2.)   Where could you purchase the item today?

3.)   How much does the item cost?

4.)   What made you choose this item?

5.)   Why do you believe that the item will have “immense value” 200 years from now?

 

Essays will be graded on Originality, Depth of Content, and Grammar, spelling and Punctuation.

Frank Kazmierczak Memorial Migrant Scholarship

 The purpose of this scholarship is to serve as a living tribute to Frank Kazmierczak, a long time migrant educator, by offering an annual award in the amount of $1,000 for post-secondary scholarship assistance to a migrant student who wishes to pursue a career in teaching.

Candidates will be screened by a selection committee on the basis of the following criteria: 

·         Child of a migrant worker or a migrant worker (priority will be given to those with mobility in the last 3 years)

·         Teaching as a career goal

·         Scholastic achievement

 NHLA Education Fund Scholarships

Deadline: March 15th, 2013

 Who is Eligible

Residents of privately owned federally assisted low income housing properties (Section 8, low income housing tax credits, etc.) or recipients of Section 8 voucher assistance that demonstrate both merit and need. 

 The Aimco Cares Scholarship - Established in recognition of AIMCO’s leading role as a provider of affordable rental apartments throughout the country and its dedication to improving the lives of low and moderate income families. 

This scholarship is directed to eligible applicants who are graduating high school seniors or current undergraduates who demonstrate both merit and need to pursue an undergraduate degree.

 William F. Gandert Memorial Scholarship - Bill Gandert was instrumental in the creation of numerous public housing authorities in the State of Ohio and served as general counsel for many of them as well as Executive Director of the Mansfield, Crawford, Huron, Marion and Seneca County Metropolitan Housing Authorities.  A vocal advocate for the poor, Bill helped found a number of poverty programs in his state and was an active NLHA member, serving as the organization’s 7th President. 

This scholarship is to benefit an eligible graduating high school senior or returning student who demonstrates both merit and need to pursue educational opportunities in a specific trade or vocation.

 Neil Churchill Memorial Scholarship - A past NLHA President and a true Section 8 advocate, Neil worked at HUD early in his career and went on to become a developer, bond underwriter and FHA specialist.  Before his untimely death in 2003, he was a Vice President with GMAC.  Neil devoted his entire career to affordable housing. 

This scholarship is for eligible applicants who are graduating college and pursuing graduate level study (or otherwise seeking a graduate education) who demonstrate both merit and need. 

Mary Lou Manzie Memorial Scholarship - Mary Lou Manzie was a woman who dedicated her career to providing safe, decent and affordable housing.  She was always willing to look at new and effortless ways to achieve that goal. A member of the National Leased Housing Association from 1975 until her death in 2006, she served as an Officer and Director of NLHA for many years.  

This scholarship is to benefit a non-traditional student by providing eligible applicants who demonstrate both merit and need, a chance to pursue higher education or other training that will lead to better employment opportunities.

 Viral video Scholarship Contest

 Welcome: The DLG Viral Video Scholarship Contest™ was created as a community service project to help educate the public on safe driving practices by awarding a scholarship to the film student or video production enthusiast who creates the best public service announcement video.

How It Works: Three scholarships will be awarded to the participant that creates the best viral video about “Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. The scholarship is open to anybody (high school students, college student and/or film enthusiasts). Video winners will be selected based on a number of categories including, creativity, entertainment value, video quality and of course the viral nature of the video (ie. video views, social validation, etc.)

Timeline:

I.             Contest Entry Period: Entries will be accepted begins September 1, 2012. All contest entries must be received no later than March 31, 2013 at 11:59pm Pacific Time. Any entries received after that time will not be accepted.

II.            Public Voting: Public voting begins as soon as the entry is received and has met all requirements. Contestant videos will be displayed on a unique webpage on the Davis Law Group website. Public voting will consist of views, comments, likes, plus 1′s and tweets on the contestants’ unique webpage. Voting will end on May 1, 2013

III.          Judging Panel: Top Finalist of the public voting will be displayed on the Davis Law Group website. Finalists will be graded by a panel of judges based on Creativity, Educational Value, Entertainment Value and Video Quality.

Migrant Farmworker Baccalaureate Scholarship

 The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a deserving student with a history of migrating for employment in agriculture who has successfully completed one year of college. This support will cover expenses beyond what the youth is entitled to in federal/state and other scholarship assistance. This scholarship is designed to assist the youth in obtaining a baccalaureate degree without being encumbered with substantial debt.

This scholarship is made available through a generous endowment from a concerned individual for the education of children of migrant farmworkers. The donor wishes to remain anonymous.

 ·         Instead of essays CKSF uses fun, fast, and easy online quizzes. It does not matter if you are first or last in your class, or how much money your parents make because we reward you for what you know.

·         A one-time registration lets you participate in CKSF scholarship competitions for the rest of your life. Registration takes approximately five minutes, then we will email you each time a new scholarship is available for which you qualify. All you have to do is keep your profile information updated and accurate.

  • A student must be a member of or at least one-quarter degree Indian blood descendent of a member of an American Indian tribe who are eligible for the special programs and services provided by the United States through the Bureau of Indian Affairs to Indians because of their status as Indians.

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children's Foundation NLEAFCF Scholarship

Scholarship Description

The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation (NLEAFCF) provides both grants and scholarships to children and families who have lost a parent in the line of duty, had a parent become permanently disabled in the line of duty or are enduring significant financial hardships due to tragic circumstances.
This merit-based award involves a minimum of $1,000 and up to $5,000. The number of scholarships awarded depends upon the yield of the endowment.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be a child of a law enforcement agent/officer or firefighter who lost his/her life in the line of duty ( see Attachment A ). Awards are based on scholastic and other achievements such as demonstration of leadership, outstanding performance in the arts, sports, or volunteer activities benefiting the community. Candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, certificate or diploma at any accredited college, university or technical institution in the United States . Each candidate must be registered as a full-time student during the entire academic year and maintain a 2.5 out of a 4.0 grade point average, or the equivalent.

Sphinx Competition

Scholarship Description:

The Sphinx Competition presented by Chase is held every year in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan. The competition is open to all Junior High, High School, and College age Black and Latino string players residing in the U.S. The Sphinx Competition offers young Black and Latino classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians in a competition setting. Its primary goals are to encourage, develop and recognize classical music talent in the Black and Latino communities.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Sphinx Musical Assistance Fund, one must apply to compete in the Sphinx Competition for Young Black and Latino String Players.

 Each year, all 18 semi-finalists in the competition (applicants that are chosen to advance to the Semi-Finals Round upon the review of preliminary audition tapes) will be entitled to receive Sphinx assistance Fund Scholarships.
