The CREATIVE WRITE-A-THON is an biennial fundraiser providing students, faculty,

and community members an inspiring all-day marathon of writing and creativity.  With a

minimum of $50 in pledges, participants receive inspirational and practical creative

writing prompts from working writers in the four genres: fiction, poetry, creative

nonfiction, and drama. Raffles, contests, prizes and surprises throughout the day keep

participants inventive and involved in the spirit of a writers community.  Proceeds from

the event are used exclusively for creative writing and literary events at Grossmont

College, including the hugely popular annual Literary Arts Festival.  The festival is

always free and open to the public, and past keynote speakers have included such

literary luminaries as Dorothy Allison, Matt de la Peña, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Marge

Piercy, Anthony Swofford, Nick Flynn, Marilyn Chin, Victor Villaseñor, Kim Addonizio,

and Steve Kowit.
