BOT ONLINE COURSE DETAILS

Are you interested in taking an online course, but feel a little confused on how it all works? Would you feel better if you could have a live person explain the process to you? If so, please attend one of my optional on-campus orientations listed below.

You are invited to attend an in-person orientation  This event will be designed for those students taking the Essential courses listed below in addition to those enrolled in BOT 100 – Basic Keyboarding.  Additionally, the orientations will benefit anyone taking a BOT online course.

SPRING 2011 dates TBA

We will cover everything you need to know to succeed in this course and welcome any questions you may have.

 *on-campus contact for Essential courses:  619 644 7867

This orientation will cover the basics regarding how to navigate the course management system, Blackboard, how to upload assignments, using MyITLab for the essential courses and other key elements of online courses.  Andre Andersen  will be coordinating this event, so please contact him if you have further questions at andre.andersen@gcccd.edu.

Yes, you must have the Microsoft Office software for 2007.  A trial version can be downloaded, however be aware that this is only available for 60 days and at that time you would need to purchase a full version.  Details will be provided how to purchase a student package at a reduced price.

Instructors will have their syllabi posted on this website in the near future.  Blackboard access will be available the weekend before the semester begins.  Remember your log-in is your first and last name as User and your password is your 6-digit PIN (birthdate:  mm/dd/yy).  Please take time to go through the Blackboard tutorial that explains how the course management system operates.  It provides useful information about contacting your instructor, uploading assignments, etc.

We look forward to a successful experience using distance education.  If this isn’t the correct mode of learning for you, know that the BOT Flex Lab is an open entry/open exit format in which you work at your own pace based on the schedule of required hours.  There is a link for you to click to explore more about this option.
