You earn credit in this course by clocking the minimum hours listed
in your syllabus and satisfactorily completing all assignments and
tests. See your syllabus in Blackboard or at
www.grossmont.edu/bot
for required hours. Some individuals may need more than the hours
listed in your syllabus to complete all assignments. You may take as
many additional hours as necessary. If you decide to stop attending
class, it is
your
responsibility to obtain a drop card and submit it prior to the
Final Drop Date. If you fail to do this, you may receive an “F”
grade.
-
Please refer to your
course syllabus
for the total required hours for each course and the WEEKLY HOURLY
GRID for weekly hours.
-
You must start all your courses within
1
week
of enrolling in them or you may be dropped.
-
You
must attend your required weekly hours and make academic progress or
you may be dropped from the course.
-
If you are taking more than one BOT Class,
you must attend the total number of required hours for each of your
classes.
-
If your hours upon completion are below
80% of the required hours,
email your instructor for further direction.
-
Check your hours when logging in and out of the Red Canyon software
Our
goal is to provide a positive learning experience. We take
academic integrity seriously and we expect our students to
demonstrate respect for the integrity of the courses and the
grades they receive.
FLEX LAB POLICIES and RULES
Please observe the following rules so that every student working
independently may concentrate and complete their assignments. It is
expected that each student demonstrate professional, office-like
behavior and follow all posted signs and instructor directions.
·
ONLY
BOT course work may be done in the Flex Lab and all
work,
except reading, must be
completed
in the Flex Lab.
·
Do
NOT
print unless you are instructed to do so in your syllabus.
·
A picture I.D. card is
required each visit and
must be visible at your work station.
·
Complete your assignments and exams in the order in which they
appear in your syllabus. Skipped or missed
assignments will receive a “0” score.
·
Cheating or copying another student’s work is a very serious offense
and could result in a failing grade (“F”) for the assignment and/or
the entire course.
·
No visitors or children are allowed in the Lab.
·
No food or drinks are allowed at work stations. Please leave water
bottles in your backpack.
·
Log out of the Red Canyon attendance tracking software
when you leave the building or take for a break longer than 5
minutes.
·
Please set all cell phones to silent mode and put away. No text
messaging while working in the Lab. No cell phones allowed in the testing
area.
· No laptop computers/notebooks or
music devices allowed at anytime. No charging devices in our lab.
·
No loud talking, use of profanity, or social visits.
·
Any computer left unattended for more than 15 minutes may be
restarted by an Instructor.
·
We are not responsible for any personal items left at your work
station.
·
Use of online surfing, games, email, or chats are not allowed at any
time.
·
No printing from the internet unless your syllabus asks you to.
STUDENTS MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE OR MAY BE SUSPENDED IF THEY VIOLATE ANY OF
THESE POLICIES.
We want to you to succeed! The following tips have been designed
with your success in mind:
Ø
Bring required course materials to every class session. This
includes your syllabus, textbook, flash drive, notebook, and a pen
or pencil.
Ø
Label flash drives and other personal objects with your name and class.
Ø
Read your syllabus, and keep it visible at your work station as you work. Syllabi are
found in your course Blackboard container(s) or on the BOT website.
Ø
Back-up or Save your work regularly. Back-up to a home
computer if possible.
Ø
Attend class regularly—you may be dropped if you don’t. Make the
Flex Lab a part of your weekly schedule.
Ø
When having problems, read back over your text material or visit online
help. If you still have problems, ask for
assistance. Remember, there are no “stupid” questions.
Ø
Every student at Grossmont College has an internet e-mail account –
you may send and receive e-mail from any computer in the world as
long as it has a browser installed and an Internet connection. Ask
any Instructor for information on using this system or visit
www.grossmont.edu
and use the email link at the top right corner of the webpage.
Ø
In an Open Entry/Open Exit learning environment, it is possible for
you to complete your class without ever meeting your Instructor.
While you may ask the Instructor on duty for assistance, you
may find it necessary to contact your Instructor directly. We
encourage our students to utilize the Blackboard e-mail link as our
Instructors check for messages from their students on a regular
basis. Messages sent from Blackboard automatically include the
COURSE NUMBER
in the subject line of every e-mail you send your Instructor.
Ø
Proofread your work on the screen to find your errors
rather than printing it. Needless printing wastes paper.
Ø
NEED
HELP WHEN WORKING?
v
Refer to your textbook and/or the Help feature in your software.
v
Use a yellow card to ask an Instructor or Lab Assistant for help.
FLEX
LAB ASSIGNMENTS and TEXTBOOKS
§
ALL computer assignments must be completed in the Flex Lab in
the order
as listed on the assignment sheet of your syllabus. If you skip an assignment, you may
receive a “0” on that assignment.
§
All assignments must be your own work and not shared with another
student. Flash drives may be collected by an Instructor at any time for
inspection. If you need assistance, ask an Instructor rather than a
fellow student.
§
Place a checkmark and write the date next to each assignment
on your syllabus as you turn in your work.
§
Check Blackboard to determine HOW and WHEN to submit
your assignments. Some assignments will require printouts, while
others can be submitted and retrieved in your Blackboard container.
§
Organize printed assignments neatly—submit as if you are submitting
a proposal to your boss in a professional setting. Bundle them in
the order in which they appear on the syllabus and staple them to a
transmittal sheet (found near the assignment bins) if your class
requires printed work.
§
Place printed assignments in the appropriate slot with your class name
and number written on the transmittal sheet.
§
Pick up your graded PRINTED assignments in the “Returned
Assignments” bin in the Lab.
§
You may resubmit assignments as indicated by your Instructor
before taking your Final. Your Instructor will notify you if you
may resubmit an assignment.
§
Some textbooks are available on limited loan in the library.
The Flex Lab DOES NOT loan textbooks or other supplies to students.
£
You may create a one-page
Study Guide for all tests. This Study Guide may be used during the
test and will be
collected with the test. No Print Screens or photocopies of textbook
pages are permitted.
£
Tests must be taken in the designated testing area.
£
You may not confer with any other student at any time while taking
an exam. All exams must remain in the Flex Lab and be completed in
one class session.
£
Exams must be completed in one sitting and during lab hours. Be sure
you have enough time to complete an exam before you start (2 hours
minimum suggested).
£
Exams
are checked out and date stamped by Instructors. Exams will not be
checked out when less than an hour is left before closing the Lab.
£
Inform an Instructor if you need to take a break during your exam—DO
NOT leave the room during an exam without first consulting the
Instructor on duty.
£
No headphones or cell phones allowed in the testing area.
The penalty for not following these policies may include receiving a
“0” for the exam or an “F” in the course. If you skip an exam you
will receive a “0” for the exam.
